Specimen Series I (the garden)
1998, twelve 12"x12" colour photograms.
The Specimen Series work is an investigation into the meaning of nature through the minute specimens of vegetation found in my garden, scraps from my kitchen table, bugs found in my bathtub that come to represent domestic space. The photograms act as a kind of intervention to preserve and memorialize each specimen. As such, it allows for a consideration of our precarious relationship to nature as a whole and as mediated through artistic and scientific practices. It is a relationship of both mourning and discovery.
