Specimen Series V (from a to z)
2000, twenty-six 9"x9" colour photograms.
As part of the larger body of work, Specimen Series, this work continues my investigation into the meaning of nature through the minutiae found in everyday domestic spaces (bits of vegetation found in my garden, scraps from my kitchen table, bugs found in my bathtub, dead matter from my backyard). The photograms act as a kind of intervention, preserving and memorializing each specimen. As such, it allows for a consideration of our precarious relationship to nature as a whole and as mediated through artistic and scientific practices. It is a relationship of both mourning and discovery.
